It’s the simple things

I totally missed doing my gratitude challenge yesterday, but better late than never. The topic for this week is simple things. Read about the challenge here.

So today I am grateful for…

The fact that for two nights in a row my baby has slept a 6.5 hour stretch. IT feels SO great to get to sleep longer than 2 hours at a time. Hopefully this keeps up!

For the fact that this summer doesn’t seem to want to end. As much as I tried to hype myself up for fall, I am really more of a summer type girl. I am pretty glad we keep getting warm and sunny days even into October this year.

For my girls’ imaginations. There is few things I love more than eavesdropping on my girls while they play. They manage to build up some pretty complex lives in their imaginary worlds and I get many laughs a day from it. The latest favorite is to talk constantly about their “pink grandmas”. In fact they get so sucked into their pretend worlds, that Bella was devastated the other day when I reminded her that the pink grandma, was in fact, just a figment of an overactive imagination. She had herself all hyped up to go visit her in her cave, with the underground pool and hot tub.

For caffeine. Oh how I am thankful for caffeine!

For baby’s smiles in the morning. I forgot how much I love waking up to a cooing and smiling baby in the morning. It’s the best way to start the day!

For getting my energy back. After all the pregnancies, and issues of the last few years, it feels so good to be getting back to normal. It is so great to be able to get more done around the house, cook real meals, and bake again! I forgot how much I enjoy baking and cooking more than 20 minute meals.

For music. It motivates me when I am lazy, cheers me up when I am grumpy, and gets my focus back where it belongs.

For stores that offer playland. I love that on those days when I need a mommy break, in a bad way, Fred Meyer is only a short drive away. For one blissful hour I get to roam the aisles of the store, or sit in the bakery, with just a sleeping baby. My girls love it too so I don’t even have to fight them to get them there. I used to think Fred Meyer was overpriced, but now when I am wandering around in peaceful abandon, suddenly $5 for a loaf of bread doesn’t seem so bad.

For yummy smelling candles and scentsy wax. When you have a baby in the house, it seems like everything takes on that fresh puke, poop and breast milk smell. I love lighting a candle (cinnamon apple currently), and putting on some music. It almost makes me forget that my house smells and looks like a shoddily ran day care center.

What simple things have made your life more pleasant this week?
